A Report on the Macroeconomy of Vietnam: Analysis and Policy Recommendations Nhan Ho - @00351167 Macroeconomic overview of Vietnam Vietnam has gone through a successful development process, known to be one of south east Asia’s fastest growing economy and could possibly become a developed nation by 2020 (BBC News, 2014). Vietnam was once one of the poorest countries in the world in 1986 with per capita income below $100. As of present, Vietnam has transformed into a lower middle income country with per capita income of $1,960 by 2013 (The World Bank, 2014). Vietnam’s GDP per capita have been rising every year as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 1 Vietnam’s GDP Per Capita from years 2004 to 2014 (Trading Economics, 2014). Vietnam has also had success in reducing poverty, from nearly 60% of people living in poverty falling to 20.7% in 2010 and presently below 10% (The World Bank, 2014). One of the causes of poverty was due to the lack of education (limited access) which was corrected over the years; primary school enrolments for the poor have increased by more than 90% and secondary school enrolments increasing by 70%. Not only were there rising levels of education but also diversification in off-farm activities, though there are still problems such as external shocks, inequality and macro instability that still create new challenges for Vietnam (The World Bank, 2013). The idea of hope is developed throughout the film by using visual and verbal features as Jamal Malik faces a life in the slums and working child labour, until he finds love with Latika but the power of corrupt India splits them apart and now only destiny will bring them back together. Setting throughout the film developed an important idea about the purpose of the film to show the audience â€Å"the real Mumbai†. The geographical setting of the film largely took place in the slums of Mumbai, India. This showed the audience â€Å"the real Mumbai, India†. The real Mumbai India was shown by Jamal, Salim and their mother sifting through rubbish, washing their clothes in dirty water and selling anything worth money including selling spots in line at the toilets. All of this showed the audience the poverty in India in reality with 45% of the Indian population living in poverty and the dramatic change Jamal had to go through to get Latika back. However it was this poverty in his childhood that gave him the answers to the TV show who wants to be a millionaire and his destiny to get Latika back. Once Jamal is grown up he is on top of a high raised building where the slums used to be this is a contrast to how much Jamal has changed since he was young and in the slums to now how he is a millionaire, the buildings have changed from slums to high raised buildings. Diegetic music was used a lot throughout the film developing the ideas of hope and freedom. A good example of this was when the two boys were running away from Maman (child slave labourer) and they were traveling by train the lyrics of the song were in contrast â€Å"they cant even catch me† helped give a happy mood as the boys were laughing that they had gotten away. Another use of sound was that of the game show â€Å"Who Wants to be a Millionaire† and its theme music that created tension this helped give the idea of hope in every episode and Latika once said â€Å"It’s the perfect opportunity to start again† talking about the game show it was Jamal’s only chance to get Latika. Throughout the film the idea of hope and freedom was shown by visual and verbal features from the costume worn to create the idea of hope between Latika and Jamal. The text being explored is out of the Shadows by Jason Wallace. Change reoccurs throughout the text which helps to develop Roberts character. Similarly, the major connotation of racism also engages readers to relate to the changes of Roberts and Ivans character. Change is evident in the development of Roberts character as he experiences his journey with Ivan and his friends.At the beginning of the text, Out of the Shadows by Jason Wallace, Robert has an awkward confrontation with his ex-friend Nelson when he was with Ivan. Knowing how Ivan would react, Robert harshly told Nelson to leave him alone and not to mind his business. This is demonstrated in the quote, I dont know why I felt surprised, wasnt that what Id been after? The use of the soliloquy creates an impression t hat Robert is realising he is changing into to someone he isnt. He is questioning why he was having doubts as that was what he had wanted to achieve in the first place.This obscurity in how Robert feels about becoming a new self helps the idea that change is a recurring theme throughout the text. In another scenario, Robert is responding to his dad why he has not been playing or hanging around with Nelson anymore. In this quote, Hes not really a friend anymore. Robert replied with a tone that seemed he was trying to tell himself how he felt instead of his father. The doubt he is experiencing emphasises he is trying to turn over a new leaf in order to fit in, and hence Robert deals with change throughout the text. Another significant theme recurring through the text is racism.This is shown in the quote, Hes using his colour to his advantage. The metaphor used suggests that the author is putting out the fact that racism was still a major issue in those times and needed to be viewed d ifferently. Ivan is disgusted by Nelson, who he says is using is colour to his advantage because blacks in those time were viewed as the unfortunate. The harsh meaning behind this racist comment, gives people an urge to change and make a difference in racial equality. Ivans character persists to tell the readers he does not appreciate the blacks and always finding a reason to hate on them. This is shown in the line No, special.Hes black. The italics used for the word, special emphasises racial equality is not evident in this text. The composers use of a metaphor shows the scorn and harsh personality of Ivan and thus engages the audience in the relevant issues of society. In conclusion, change and racism are significant themes in the text which are sadly still relevant now in our society. The change in Robert’s character gives the reader’s a personal insight on how these relevant ideas involving post-colonial Zimbabwe, affect people negatively. It is responsible for t he portrayal of all the characters in ‘Out of Shadows’.

These types of distributions are a series of n independent Bernoulli trials, each of which has a constant probability p of success. As with any probability distribution we would like to know what its mean or center is. For this we are really asking, â€Å"What is the expected value of the binomial distribution?† Intuition vs. Proof If we carefully think about a binomial distribution, it is not difficult to determine that the expected value of this type of probability distribution is np. Otosclerosis Hearing serves a very important function in our lives. Much of the time, it is taken for granted. We tend not to appreciate it, until it starts to fail. There are many disorders that can cause a difficulty in hearing and hearing loss. One such disorder is otosclerosis. This disorder deserves a significant amount of research. Not only because we are dependent on our sense of hearing, but because its effects are far reaching. So much so, that it is hard to comprehend how we could ever live without it. It has even been said that Beethoven had otosclerosis. Toward the end of his career, he could not even hear his own music (Goldstein, 1999). Its effects are devastating and are well worth studying. Otosclerosis is a middle-ear disorder. The hearing loss is usually conductive, affecting the bones in the middle ear that conduct sound to the inner ear. This conductive hearing loss is caused by the growth of a spongy bone-like tissue that prevents the ossicles (bones of the middle ear) from moving well. One of the first signs is a small growth of the tissue in the middle ear. This is often in front of the oval window, which separates the middle ear from the inner ear. This can begin in early childhood or adolescence. The tissue may grow rapidly and become hard. The bone tissue grows over the stapes ossicle attaching it to the oval window. At first, hearing loss occurs in the low frequencies. High frequencies are affected next, followed by the loss of hearing in the middle frequencies. Otosclerosis usually begins in one ear, but the other ear often develops it as well (Otosclerosis, 1998). There are different categories of otosclerosis. "Subclinical Otosclerosis" occurs when the tissue does not interfere with the ossicles. A person may have this form for many years and not know it. Another category is "Clinical Otosclerosis." This type can be present in the teen years, but not detected until the young adult years. It is rare for it to occur after the age of fifty. The last category of"Histologic Otosclerosis" occurs when the tissue is present, but it may or may not cause hearing loss. "Cochlear Otosclerosis" has been used to refer to sensorineural hearing loss. This is caused by abnormal blood flow to the middle ear, rather than growth of tissue (Otosclerosis, 1998). Otosclerosis is the most frequent cause of middle ear hearing loss.

If these strategies are not successful, a child may be removed from the group and guided to a quite area with an independent activity. If your child continues to have problems, we will contact you. We will do our best to work with you to correct the behavior issues. If there is still no change in the behavior, a short suspension may be used at the judgment of the director.If a child is not adapting or benefiting from our program, we reserve the right to disenroll the child from the program, also at the discretion of the programs director. Communication between the parent and the caregiver is important to having a successful child care arrangement. After an adjustment period, your child should be able to make the move from home to child care fairly easily. The staff will be providing support to you by discussing your child's progress and will recognize the parent as the primary caregiver.A tour of the center is a vital part of the or ientation process. It is at this time when you will meet the staff members that will be responsible for educating your child as well as view the classroom environment. We suggest that you bring your child along so that, he/she can become familiar with the teacher and the classroom. A tour can be arranged at anytime, just call to set up a scheduled time or just drop in. Our staff welcomes you with open arms. Lighthouse Learning Academy will distribute monthly newsletters so that you will be aware of what is happening with our program.The newsletter will inform you of the themes that will be introduced to your child each month. It will also detail ways in which you can assist the program, as well as upcoming events. Teachers may opt to send home either weekly or a monthly newsletter, keeping you aware of the happenings in the classroom. Through newsletters we are able to keep you updated of the programs effort to make sure that your child’s light shines. Assessment is the metho d of collecting data about children in order to determine where they are developmentally and to make decisions about their education.Teachers obtain useful data about children's skills, and progress by observing, documenting, and reviewing children's work over time. Ongoing assessment that happens in the context of classroom activities can provide an accurate and fair picture of the children's abilities and progress. The purposes for assessment in programs for young children are: instructional planning and communicating with parents. This helps to determine, what are the child's strengths, needs, and learning processes, as well as how is this child doing, and how will this child's instruction and guidance be planned?Another purpose is identification of children with special needs. This allows for assessing whether the child's needs can be met in the program and if not, how does this program need to be adapted, or what program is required? The third purpose is program evaluation and accountability. This assessment allows for assessing whether the program, as now implemented, is meeting its goals and objectives? One of the assessment techniques that we use is the student portfolio. The portfolio is a system for the collection of the child’s work.Work samples are products of children's work that mirrors situations in the learning environment, rather than manufactured instructional situations. The collection of work samples along with the recorded observations of children's interactions and comments shows the child’s progress over time and in a variety of settings. The key to the use of information collected through this approach is the teacher's knowledge of child development and skill as an observer. Parent conferences will provide you with the opportunity to discuss and learn about your child’s portfolio and how it is used in assessing your child’s development.Observations will also be used as an assessment tool. Observations can be an assessment tool used while a child is playing usually in his/her natural environment. The observer is able to see the interactions between the children as well as noting speech and language, and motor skills. Lighthouse Learning Academy wants to make sure that your child will receive the individualized attention that they deserve, so we have established groupings of children for care which comply with the following staff ratios for every age group.For infants to one and a half year olds, the teacher-child ratio will be 3 to 6 infants for 1 teacher. There is a maximum of twelve infants in one room. If there are more than six infants, another teacher will be placed in the classroom. For one year olds that are walking, the ratio will be 1 teacher to 8 children, with a limit not to exceed sixteen children. For two year olds, the ratio will be 1 teacher to every ten toddlers, with no more than twenty in the classroom. For the three year old classroom, the ratio will be 1 teacher for e very 15 children, with no more than thirty.And in the four year old room as well as the pre-k program, the ratio is 1 teacher to eighteen children. In the pre-k program there are always two teachers. Children may be mixed in age groups only during early morning arrivals and late afternoon times of departure. When mixing age groups, you must go by the staff: child ratio and group size based upon the age of the youngest child in the group. During rest time the staff: child ratio may be doubled the number of children as long as there is one staff member in the classroom. Lighthouse Learning Academy prides itself on providing a safe learning environment for your child.But we know that accidents and injuries will occur. If an accident occurs at our center, we will follow the following guidelines depending on the severity of the injury. First and foremost, our staff and teachers are trained to apply first aid to minor injuries such as cuts, scrapes, and bruises. The director will report t o you at the end of the day or during the day based on the nature of the injury. If your child is seriously injured and it requires medical attention, you will be notified immediately and emergency personnel will be contacted.In cases where you child has to be taken to the emergency room, we require you to sign an authorization form so that we may act during your absence. Can Violence in Our School Be Reduced The problem we are facing today with violence in our schools is a major concern with communities all over the world. School violence wears many faces. It can be gang activity, locker thefts, bully and intimidation, gun use, or anything that products a victim. Violence is perpetrated against students, teachers, and staff and ranges from intentional vengeance to accidental killings and bystanders. Can violence in our schools be reduced? If so what do we need to do to reduce it? Is the lack of discipline in our schools to blame for the rise in violence? Are the movies, TV, and video games to blame for the violence in our schools?
